Onja is in Toamasina, a lively city with beautiful beaches, nice restaurants, and plenty to do and see. Toamasina is Madagascar’s second-largest city (population 300,000) yet is surrounded by plenty of natural beauty and even has a national park nearby.

About the role

At Onja, we believe in the potential people have regardless of their background. We upskill underprivileged youth to work as software developers and allow Malagasy youth to accelerate Madagascar’s development. 

In your role as Communications Officer, you will contribute to telling Onja’s story to the world by creating engaging content, growing our audience, and building trust and legitimacy among our stakeholders.

We believe in hiring based on potential, attitude and cultural fit rather than specific qualifications.

Your responsibilities will include: 

• Support the development of compelling content from ideation through planning, production, publication, and evaluation, ensuring every output supports Onja’s communications and organisational goals.
• Manage and grow Onja’s online communities by creating meaningful engagement and identifying opportunities to strengthen our digital presence.
• Monitor, analyse, and report on communications performance across social media and web, using insights to continuously improve our approach.
• Create high-quality communications and marketing materials for diverse audiences, including tech companies and large institutional donors, to raise Onja’s profile and support our growth.
• Collaborate across teams to identify, shape, and amplify stories that advance both Onja’s social impact and business objectives, with particular attention to American and European audiences.
• Coordinate cross-functional content projects, bringing together colleagues from different teams to deliver timely, strategic communications that align with organisational priorities.
